Plenty of Urban Entertainment in Las Vegas for NYE

The Las Vegas Urban Community has plenty of choices for NYE 2009 that will lead us into 2010. If you’re looking for a party blackvegas.com has found several choices for you.  Depending on the type of music you like and the crowd you want to be around should decide where you celebrate New Year’s Eve.
The Movement presents their 2nd annual Black & White Extravaganza and this year their celebrating it at the new Soulzburry Club. It’s hosted by 2010 Miss Black Nevada - Angel Qualls. Music by Special Guest DJ, DJ B Eazy & DJ Bizrok playing R&B, Hip Hop and Old School all night! If you like to laugh and listen to Hip Hop then check out the Grand Opening of Club Vie in The Miracle Mile Shops @ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Special guest include Omarion, Tommy Davidson, 97.5's Mike*P and DJ Battlecat. It should be quite a seen as some of the people who were behind the old Poetry Club bring Hip Hop back on the strip.

Neighborhood Market Finds A Way to Give Back

One Of A Kind NLV Neighborhood Market Finds A Way to Give Back.

Jimmy Banks owner and operator of Jimmy’s Cheyenne Market and Carolyn J. Essex Candidate for Assembly District 7 2010, will give donated toys and gift cards to needy community children on Wednesday, Dec. 23rd, 2009 from 10am – 3pm.  More than 50 neighborhood families called in to reserve their spot at this year’s Toy Drive, completely fueled by customers and face book fans of Jimmy’s Cheyenne Market.

"This is a reflection of our North Las Vegas community.  We must look out for not only our own needs but the need of others says Assembly 7 candidate Carolyn Essex a local community and political activist who helped to organize the Toy Drive.

Jimmy Banks is a recent recipient of the “Community Pride” award at last month’s “A Night to Honor Community Heroes” event, held at the NLV Pearson Community Center.  The local neighborhood group awarded Jimmy because of his open door policy to all who need to distribute pertinent and important information to his customer base which is diverse and closely representative of the surrounding neighborhood.  Jimmy has been in the grocery and neighborhood market business for over 30 years.

On any given day or night you might see various community groups having a meet and greet network event or community activists and leaders meeting to discuss the needs of the community in the store’s community room.

Along with the “Toy Drive” on Wednesday, Dec. 23rd, the market is helping a local energy assistance agency in getting the word out to the community that there are grants available to help with utility bills.  Once approved, the recipient can receive federally funded assistance for their utility bills for one full year which can be renewed every year through an application process.

A local toy maker, Rex Doty has donated 100 handmade wooden toy cars and trucks to the Toy Drive and Kenneth Willis (Energy Assistance Program-MACEO, Inc.) will coordinate the intake effort for the energy assistance program.

For further details, please contact Nina Griffin, marketing and community outreach coordinator for Jimmy’s Cheyenne Market at (702) 219-6882.

It doesn’t stop with the food, as the drinks are just as tasty and full of soul – from the Boll Weevil that’s sure to pack a punch to the Wang Dang Doodle that the women will love.
It is an all-in-one experience as B.B. King’s Blues Club will offer music seven nights a week from funky and fast to soulful and smooth. Come for dinner and experience the tunes that emanate from the in-room stage. As the night progresses, so will the tunes as guests turn to the dance floor to dance the night away. B.B. King’s Blues Club at The Mirage is located across from The Beatles REVOLUTION Lounge and next to Samba Brazilian Steakhouse. The 558-seat venue features four bars; one outside looking into the club and three inside, all with great views of the stage and entertainment. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night dining; open until 2 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends or until the last man (or woman) is left standing. Las Vegas Labor Day Weekend Still Packs a Punch

Once again Labor Day Weekend has snuck upon us. Tourists from California make their way down “Highway 15” to close out the summer. Las Vegas Labor Day Weekend numbers are down from previous years but if you’re trying to find a seat in one of the “Las Vegas Sports Books” you might think otherwise. The official start of “Football Madness” begins this weekend. At the same time "The Las Vegas Magic Convention” will be wrapping up and I'm sure there will be some celebrities held over from the "60,000 expected attendees".” The Magic Convention" brings together amateur and professional clothing vendors from all over the world.

This weekend I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather be than Las Vegas. Ok if you’re not into the “celebrity chase” or feeling the inflated prices on the craps, roulette and black jack tables, you can always find some great “Las Vegas Entertainment”. For a free listing of Nightclubs, Concerts, Shows, Parties and other Las Vegas Entertainment visit blackvegas.com

If that's not enough, highlighting the “2009 Las Vegas Labor Day Weekend” will be “The 1st Annual Super Soul Gospel fest” to be held in Henderson Nevada. This event is hosted by Power 88 and features Marvin Sapp and Hezekiah Walker. Yep that's right “The City Formally Known” who just last week hosted a “Celebration Weekend” for The King of Pop & R&B or however you choose to remember “Michael Jackson” now welcomes two of the biggest names in the Gospel Industry. “Nice Combination” from arguably the greatest entertainment city of all time.

National best-selling and award-winning author ReShonda Tate Billingsley

Have you ever felt like you have a gift for writing and wanted to write a book but didn’t know where to start? Have you written a book but don’t know how to go about getting it published?

National best-selling and award-winning author ReShonda Tate Billingsley will present a free one-hour crash course on writing and getting published at the 2009 Black Writers Reunion & Conference. Whether you’re just toying with story ideas or have a finished manuscript, this workshop on writing and publishing basics will give you an overview of how to write a book and get it published. In this workshop, attendees will learn:
    * Getting from “Page 1″ to “The End”
    * Basic elements of crafting a novel - story, plot, dialogue, setting
    * Benefits of mainstream publishing versus self-publishing
    * Why you should ALWAYS hire an editor
    * Is your idea marketable?
    * Getting your book in the right hands (agents, editors, and most importantly, readers)
    * Why writing the book is the easy part
    * Common mistakes beginning writers make
    * Why you should never write to become rich (and why it most likely won’t happen that way)

This power-packed workshop, to be presented on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, is being offered in conjunction with the fifth Black Writers Reunion & Conference. The conference, held June 18-19, offers more than 25 workshops on the craft of writing fiction and nonfiction, the art of spoken word poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, blogging, public speaking, technical writing, grant writing, website tips and tricks, writing careers, and starting your own greeting card business. The conference also covers the business side of publishing and self-publishing with sessions on book deals, pitching to agents and editors, writing book proposals, media and reader relations, editing essentials, e-publishing, literary law, self-publishing, and marketing, among others.
Admission to this workshop is free and open to the public, but space is limited and reservations before May 1 are required. Seats will go quickly and early reservations are strongly encouraged.  A downloadable application form and complete details on the conference are available on the conference website at www.blackwriters.org. Accommodations are available for workshop attendees at the Golden Nugget on Wednesday and Thursday, June 17-18, at a rate of $59 per night. BWRC can be reached by phone at 413.235.4002.
